PRESIDENT’S REPORT

WEDNESDAY APRIL 12TH

 

1.          In the interest of devoting our precious time to discussions and member needs, the President’s report will be written.  Please feel free to ask questions, offer suggestions and any changes to further improve our meetings and member communication.

 

2.         2007 MENA Officer elections - open positions, position descriptions and application/nomination information can be found on our website.  The next MENU will also contain a “Call” for candidates.  Please consider running for Treasurer, Secretary or one of 5 Board of Directors positions.  Mentoring provided!

 

3.         The 2006 Delegate application and requirements can also be found on the web site.  For each 50 members we are able to send a delegate.  Right now we have 709 members, meaning we have slots for 14 delegates and 2 alternates in addition to myself to travel to San Antonio.   The application is based on a point system, but we also encourage anyone to apply but writing a letter of interest.   A stipend is paid to delegates to assist in covering travel and lodging expenses.  Receipts must be submitted to our treasurer to verify expenses.   All members are encouraged to apply!!

 

4.         If anyone would like to view the Candidate’s Forum which took place during Leadership in Austin, I have a DVD that I would be happy to share.

 

5.         Speaking of Texas - we will be once again partnering with Texas, New York, Indiana and Oklahoma for the “O-MA-TINY” party.  This year it will be help on Friday Sept 15th following the ENAF event.  We had a great time last year in Nashville - and we can expect another great evening hosted by our colleagues from Texas.  If anyone is interested in helping to plan this event - please contact Faye.

 

6.         2006 ENA Scientific Assembly Exhibitors Scholarship - This year 15 scholarships will be awarded.  Each scholarship has a values of $750.00, which includes 3-day registration plus expense money.  Application information is available at www.ena.org.  The submission deadline is June 9, 2006.  Scholarship winners will be notified by June 30, 2006.      

 

7.         Call for 2007 Annual Conference Work Team members - applications are now available on-line at www.ena.org for ENA members interested in serving on the 2007 Annual Conference Work Team.  The 2007 Annual Conference will be held in Salt Lake City September 27 - 29, 2007.  Applications are only available on-line between April 1, 2006 and June 9, 2006.

 

 


8.         EMERGENCY!!!!             EMSC Funding is in jeopardy!   Please contact your local

representative asking for support in funding the EMSC program at a level of $25 million for FY 2007.    If you have not received these emergency e-mails from Kathi Ream at ENA, please visit www.ena.org for further information, including a letter to fax to your representative and talking points.  Click on the “Government and Advocacy” link, then “Legislative Action Center”.   President’s Bush’s proposed budget for Fiscal Year (FY) 2007 contains ZERO funding for the Emergency Medical Services for Children (EMSC) Program.

12.        We would like to post TNCC/ENPC course information on the website – if you are holding a

            course, please let me know.   This is one of the most frequent information requests that I get.

 

13.        Almost time for the next newsletter – always looking for content.  Share what’s going on at

your hospital, news about yourself or a colleague, new developments in emergency care, or

whatever.

 

14.        In response to suggestions at the February SC meeting, we have been doing some work on our Mass ENA web site.  Please visit and let us know how we are doing.

 

15.        Also, in response to suggestions at the February SC meeting, we are going to trial a daytime meeting.   Our June 21st meeting will be held at the Clarion in Northampton from

            11:30am – 2pm. Education topic to be announced   (suggestions welcome).
