Meeting began with a Minnette Weaver speaking about the history of the Pioneer Valley ENA.  That is has been inactive for some time.  That there has been one previous meeting where members got together last month and agreed that they would like to see some networking, education and promotion of emergency nursing.

Minnette Weaver stated that she has had contact with April Bowers and April will get the check book back to the Pioneer Valley ENA.  We will then be able to establish balances and forward information to the state treasurer.

Members voted unanimously to accept the new elected officials:

Minnette Weaver – President

Lisa Wolf – President Elect

Terri Jay – Secretary

Sarah Layzer – Treasurer

Pioneer Valley ENA members who would like to run for office for the following year are strongly encouraged to attend and run for office.

There was a discussion about the September meeting time.  A few people mentioned that they would not be able to attend and present during the day of September 11th.  The group voted that they would like to keep the date of September 11th from 5:30p to 7:30p.  Members speaking at the September 11th meeting will bring their speeches for submission for CEUs.

It was agreed that we would like our information posted on the Mass ENA website.  It was also agreed that Robin Walsh would create a Pioneer Valley Yahoo! group to assist with better communication about the Pioneer ENA group re establishing itself.  Lucy Leete agreed to let BHS know about the ENA.

We spoke about New Grad Programs – what makes a good program, how each hospital was running their program, how to retain new grads.  We spoke about evaluating new grads what the best way to evaluate what is a good ER nurse.  We spoke about evidence based practice for and developing working groups among each hospital to conduct surveys.  Collaboration of educational events was also discussed and it was agreed that previously there had been Triage classes and CEDNEP classes, that in the future we would like to hold joint classes within our hospitals to educate all of ER nurses. The group agreed to work on the upcoming presentations for the September 11th meeting and Minnette Weaver agreed that she will create an agenda.

The meeting adjourned and we all agreed on the next meeting time to be August 13, 2007 at Holyoke Hospital from 5:30 to 7:30 pm and Sarah Layzer agreed to communicate the room number as soon as she obtains it
